DESCRIPTION:Culinary medicine is a growing field of medicine that helps to bring nutrition education to life by blending the art of cooking with the science of medicine and translating recommendations into sustainable behavior change. Motivation among various stakeholders to address multifactorial\, complex problems has led to the growth of the food is medicine (FIM) spectrum of interventions\, using food as one component of treatment for diet-related diseases. Representing a critical component of FIM\, culinary medicine offers evidence-based interventions that may be offered independently or adjunctive to other interventions—whether part of FIM or other clinical modalities. This exciting field offers engaging and patient-centered interventions designed to facilitate realistic and sustainable health-related behavior change. \nNutrition professionals are uniquely equipped to develop\, lead\, and innovate in these programs to provide patient-centered\, culturally competent\, evidence-based care. Our expertise can also serve to educate and equip other multidisciplinary colleagues about healthy cooking as a clinical intervention through culinary medicine programs. \nChristina will present an overview of this exciting field\, examples of innovators who are leading programs in clinical practice and health professional education in diverse settings across the country\, diverse program models and funding opportunities\, emerging areas of research\, structures for effective interdisciplinary care teams\, effective means to convey their value to decision makers\, and recommended resources for developing your own program or partnering with one that may already exist in your own community or practice setting. \nShe will conclude with potential next steps for inspired audience members to advance their practice and leadership in this growing field. \nZoom link will be sent out on the morning of the event to the email address used to purchase the ticket.
