| Responsibilities | The Consulting Registered Dietitian provides expert nutrition assessment, guidance, and oversight across multiple healthcare and community settings. This role ensures regulatory compliance, supports clinical teams, and enhances patient and resident outcomes through evidence‑based medical nutrition therapy and nutrition program management.
RD should be comfortable with the following:
Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using current evidence‑based standards.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans.
Provide medical nutrition therapy for acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions.
Participate in interdisciplinary care teams and attend care plan meetings.
Document assessments, interventions, and progress notes in compliance with facility policies and regulatory guidelines.
Complete MDS (Minimum Data Set) nutrition sections and required documentation.
Monitor weight change trends, wound healing, hydration status, and nutritional risk factors.
Ensure menus and meal service practices meet state and federal regulatory requirements (CMS, state survey guidelines).
Provide staff education on nutrition, dining assistance, dysphagia diets, and safe feeding practices.
Lead or support Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives related to nutrition.
Provide nutrition consults for inpatients across varied acuity levels.
Recommend appropriate diets, supplements, enteral and parenteral nutrition therapies.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, pharmacists, and therapy teams.
Support discharge planning with nutrition-related recommendations and education.
Review and approve menus for nutritional adequacy and compliance with program standards.
Conduct site visits to ensure safe food handling, portion control, and service quality.
Provide education for staff, volunteers, and participants on nutrition topics.
Assist with documentation required for state and federal program compliance

| Requirements | Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN/RD) credential through CDR (Commission on Dietetic Registration).
State licensure or eligibility to obtain it.
Experience in one or more of the following strongly preferred:
Acute care/hospital nutrition
Long-term care or skilled nursing
Senior nutrition programs (e.g., congregate meals, Meals on Wheels)
Strong working knowledge of MDS, CMS regulations, and therapeutic diets.
Excellent communication, documentation, and time‑management skills.
Ability to work independently across multiple sites.
